I am looking at the catalog and the price for what I want is listed as $9.50. How much do I add for postage?

Nothing as long as you are in the USA. The total price you would pay would be $9.50. All prices in the catalog are postpaid in the USA which includes shipping via First Class Mail* or Media Mail in the USA.

If you are outside the USA your order will be shipped via airmail. Rates for Airmail are listed on the Order Instructions page.

If you are in the USA you can have your order sent by Priority Mail at an additional charge.  See our Order Instructions for pricing and details.

*US orders of one or two LPs, 10"s  or heavy magazines are sent via Media Mail.  You can upgrade your order to Priority Mail.

How long will it take for me to get my order?

It depends on where you live. In most cases we send out orders within a day of receiving them. Just add the time it takes your order and payment to get to us in New Hampshire, USA to the time it takes the order to be shipped from New Hampshire to you plus a day or so for processing.

Most US customers receive their orders within 10 days of mailing them to us. Most people get their order the same week they order.

Overseas orders sent airmail take 7-10 days on average.

How do you ship stuff?

We ship everything via the US Postal Service.

All US orders under 14 ounces are shipped via 1st class mail. Orders over 14 ounces go Priority mail. Due to their weight, US orders of 1-3 LPs, 10"s or heavy zines are shipped via media mail, which takes about a week longer than 1st class.

All overseas orders are sent via airmail.

What happens if something I order is out of stock?

Vital Music Mailorder ships everything we have in stock from your order immediately. We do not hold orders waiting for incoming items. If you order by credit card we will only charge you for the items that we send you.  If you mail in your order and we know an out of stock item from your order is coming in soon we will backorder that item and send it when we get it again in a separate package. If we don't expect what you ordered to be restocked soon and you have listed alternates we will try to pick items of same or higher value from your list. Otherwise we will issue a credit or refund for unavailable items.

I drink too much coffee and am very impatient. What is the fastest way for me to get my order?

Express Mail (overnight) delivery is also available for US orders at an extra charge so you could see your stuff next day if you need it quickly. Please note that in some areas Express Mail is a 2 days service.

I have a label or am in a band. Will you carry my records in your catalog?

Maybe. Best thing to do is send a sample along with info about the records and prices/terms. We’ll try to get back to you as soon as we can but sometimes we get backed up a bit so don’t bug us please.  A lot of times if you give us pricing we'll add it to the catalog right away on consignment.  If it sells, we order more and even pay you for your sample.  Remember we can't do this with a sample with "promo" scrawled all over it with Sharpie.

Do you have a store?

We don’t have a store.  We are now located in a small mill town in the Monadnock region of New Hampshire.  If for some strange reason you are passing through and want to drop in, let me know and we can arrange a visit.

How safe is it to send cash in the mail?

A significant amount of the orders we receive are cash orders. Almost all cash orders make it to us successfully. There is always a small risk but taking the time to conceal the cash properly can minimize the risk. If we can tell before we open your order that a letter has cash in it then so can Mr. Zipcode. Don't be a bonehead and put change in your order. It often breaks the envelope open and falls out leaving an open hole for Ms. Posty to peep through and extrude the remaining money. Even taped coins are easy to feel through an envelope. Plus, if they do make it to us we have to spend 5 minutes peeling the tape off the coins while we curse you. Please don't send coins! If you need to round up your order to an even dollar order a button or patch or we'll just throw some stickers in with your order. The best way to send cash is to use as few bills as possible, i.e. use a ten-dollar bill instead of 10 one-dollar bills. Fold the cash inside 2 or 3 pieces so it looks like a letter. It works fine as long as everyone uses their noggin.

I don't have a checking account. How do I get a money order?

If you are in the USA all US post offices sell money orders. They cost about a dollar plus the amount you want the MO for. Just take some cash to the post office and you're set. Many convenient stores and check cashing places sell money orders as well. But if you get it at the post office you can mail out your order right away! If you are outside of the USA most large banks sell money orders in US dollars payable to US bank branches. The money order should read something like this: "Payable to Bank of Toronto, New York, NY". If it is not payable to a US bank we cannot cash it and will have to return your money order. Always save your money order receipt until you receive your order.

Can you hold something for me?

No.  We sell things on a first come, first served basis.  Past experiments with holding items didn't work well and were unfair.  If you really want something order promptly and you are most likely to get what you want.

Is everything listed on your website in stock?

Likely yes.  Unlike a lot of other mailorders we only list items we have in stock.  We update the site daily and remove any things that have sold out.  Unless we get more than one order for the last copy of something on the same day you will most likely have your order shipped complete as you are ordering by credit card.  This doesn't happen very often.  If you are mailing in your order something may go out of stock by the time we receive your order.  You can list alternates if you like or we can issue a credit or refund.
